Today 30 doctors and nurses will be sworn in as the first medical trainers in the Peace Corps. Officially called Global Health Service Partnership Volunteers, the health workers will travel to Tanzania, Malawi and Uganda to train other doctors and nurses.
The fellows are funded by a joint venture between the Peace Corps and a nonprofit started by Dr. Vanessa Kerry (daughter of the Secretary of State, John Kerry).
We caught up with Kerry last November, and she explained how a “peace corps for doctors” got started and what she hopes the program will accomplish.
